South Sudan Secures Approval for Health Clinic at Nesitu Parking Yard.
7 October 2026, Kenya- Hon. Adv. Paul Dhel Gum, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport, represented the Republic of South Sudan alongside delegates from Kenya, Rwanda, Burundi and the Democratic Republic of Congo at an Extraordinary Meeting of the Executive Committee of the Northern Corridor Transit and Transport Coordination Authority (NCTTCA).
The meeting brought together Member States to deliberate on matters of shared regional interest, including institutional strengthening and measures to improve the efficiency, safety and sustainability of the Northern Corridor, one of East and Central Africa’s major transport and trade routes.
The Executive Committee also conducted interviews for new positions within the Authority, with successful candidates from Kenya, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Burundi subsequently approved for appointment. A key outcome for South Sudan was the Committee’s approval of a budget for the establishment of a health clinic at the Nesitu Parking Yard. The facility is expected to strengthen the role of Nesitu as an important regional transport hub and enhance South Sudan’s connection to the wider Northern Corridor network.
As a landlocked country, South Sudan relies significantly on efficient regional transport corridors to access markets, seaports and neighbouring economies. Investment in facilities such as Nesitu is therefore important in promoting safer cross-border transportation, supporting long-distance drivers and transport operators, and facilitating regional trade and economic integration. The proposed clinic will provide essential health services to long-distance drivers and other transport operators travelling across national borders, while also benefiting residents and surrounding communities in Nesitu.
Hon. Paul Dhel Gum expressed appreciation to the Executive Committee and the Executive Secretary of the Northern Corridor, Dr. Deng Diar, for their continued support and cooperation with South Sudan. He reaffirmed South Sudan’s commitment to working closely with Member States to strengthen regional connectivity, trade facilitation and sustainable transport development.
The approval of the Nesitu health clinic represents an important investment in both transport infrastructure and community welfare, reinforcing South Sudan’s growing role within the Northern Corridor and contributing to a more connected transport network across East and Central Africa.
